Fixtures: Reds start at Swansea

New Manchester United manager David Moyes' first test in the Barclays Premier League will be to take the Reds to Wales to face Swansea City on the opening day of the 2013/14 season.
It's the first time the sides have met on the maiden day of a league campaign and the match is currently scheduled to kick-off on Saturday 17 August (all fixtures are subject to change; the first round of TV selections will be made in mid-July).
The Premier League's 2013/14 fixtures were announced at 09:00 BST on Wednesday and, as always, make for interesting reading. Following what's been, in recent seasons, a tricky trip to the Liberty Stadium, the defending champions' schedule doesn't get any easier.
Moyes' men then host Chelsea at Old Trafford (Saturday 24 August) before travelling away to Liverpool (Saturday 31 August), welcoming Crystal Palace to Manchester (Saturday 14 September) and then visiting Manchester City (Saturday 21 September).
The new Reds manager welcomes his former club, Everton, to Old Trafford on Tuesday 3 December, while his return to Goodison Park is

Hungarian man, 98, charged with World War II crimes: prosecutors

    By Krisztina Than
BUDAPEST (Reuters) - Hungarian prosecutors on Tuesday charged a 98-year-old man who tops the Nazi-hunting Simon Wiesenthal Center's wanted list with war crimes, saying he had helped to deport Jews to Auschwitz in World War Two.
Laszlo Csatary was found guilty in absentia in 1948 of whipping or torturing Jews and helping to deport them to the death camp while serving as police commander in the Nazi-occupied eastern Slovak city of Kosice in 1944.
He was sentenced to death and lived on the run for decades until Hungarian authorities detained him and put him under house arrest in Budapest in July last year. He has denied any guilt.
In March, a Slovak court commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment.
"He is charged with the unlawful execution and torture of people, (thus) committing war crimes partly as a perpetrator, partly as an accomplice," said Bettina Bagoly, a spokeswoman for the Budapest Chief Prosecutor's Office. She said Csatary's case would go to trial within three months.
The Wiesenthal Center named Csatary their most wanted war crimes suspect last year.
In April his detention terms were changed to a ban on leaving Hungary, but prosecutors have now applied to put him back under house arrest, Bagoly said.
In a statement, the prosecutors said Csatary had regularly hit Jewish prisoners with a dog-whip in 1944 when he was a police commander overseeing a detention camp in Kosice, which was then part of Hungary and is now in Slovakia.
Around 12,000 Jews were deported from Kosice to various concentration camps, mostly to Auschwitz.
"With his actions, Laszlo Csatary ... deliberately provided help to the unlawful executions and torture committed against Jews deported to concentration camps ... from Kosice," the prosecutors' statement said.

    Asia visit excites Nemanja Vidic

    Asia visit excites Nemanja Vidic
Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is relishing the chance to lead the Reds during the summer visits to Australia and Asia in preparation for the new season.
The Reds will play matches in Bangkok, Sydney, Yokohama, Osaka and Hong Kong as part of Tour 2013 Presented By Aon and Vidic says all the players are looking forward to the trip, especially the Asian leg.
"I’m very excited. We’ve had good experiences in Asia before and I hope we have a good one again," he told ManUtd.com. "We know we have supporters all around the world and we try each year to give them a chance to see a game and meet us. United have done a great job at that over the years.
"The fans in Asia are always very excited to see us and are very passionate about Manchester United. They respect the players and they love the club. Even at Old Trafford you can see so many of them each week – they fly all the way to Manchester to watch the games.
"It’s always been nice for us to see the different countries when we travel to Asia and I’m sure we’ll have another good experience this time."

Balotelli will only become more important for Milan, says Pazzini

The Rossoneri attacker has nothing but praise for his club and international teammate as Balotelli gets set for his first full season with AC Milan.
Giampaolo Pazzini has insisted that he has a good relationship with Mario Balotelli and is confident that the 22-year-old will only become more important for AC Milan next season.

The Italy star joined the Rossoneri from Manchester City in the January transfer window and immediately became a key figure at the San Siro side, netting 12 goals in 13 Serie A appearances and helping the club to a third-place finish and a berth in the UEFA Champions League.

Pazzini is confident that there's more to come from the volatile Balotelli, though, and he has high expectations of his teammate.

"Mario is a good lad and I have never had any problems with him, more so I have an excellent relationship with him," Pazzini told reporters. "You’ll see in the future he’ll be even more useful to the team. He knows how to give the team even more."

The striker also bid farewell to Massimo Ambrosini, who is leaving the club this summer after 18 years.

"It has been an honor that he was my captain and my teammate," Pazzini said. "I thank him for everything he's done and wish him all the best."

Pazzini recently underwent knee surgery and could be out of action for five to six months.
Balotelli will only become more important for Milan, says Pazzini

Nelson Mandela 'recovering well' - grandson

Former South African President Nelson Mandela in 2012
Mr Mandela was taken to hospital last week for the third time this year
Former South African President Nelson Mandela is "recovering well" in hospital, his grandson says.
Mr Mandela is spending his eighth day in hospital to receive treatment for a recurring lung infection.
His grandson Mandla Mandela said the former president "looked good" when he visited him in hospital.
Mr Mandela became South Africa's first black president in 1994 after leading the struggle against white minority rule.
"I thank the nation and the world for the prayers for Madiba, and the doctors and the office of the ANC for keeping the family updated," Mandla Mandela said, using the former leader's clan name, according to the AFP.
Mandla Mandela's comments seem to be essentially line with statements made by the South African government in recent days balancing a reported improvement in Mr Mandela's condition with the fact that it remains serious, the BBC's Mike Wooldridge reports from Johannesburg

OLD TRAFORD WABADILISHWA NYASI NI BAADA YA MIAKA 10. SASA HOPE BALL CONTROL INATONGEZEKA

Manchester United have submitted a formal request to the FA that their first league game of the 13/14 season be played away from Old Trafford.

Despite tradition dictating that the Champions usually open their season in front of their own fans, United have asked for the extra week an away opener would bring to allow their grounds men additional time to prepare their newly laid pitch.

At a rumored cost of £800,000 the new pitch is part synthetic and is already used by Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Spurs, Swansea, Cardiff and at Wembley. (Source: Red Mancunian)

Degrees matter when hunting for a job

    Graduation
People with less education have found themselves more likely to be unemployed. (ThinkStock)
Going to university is no small investment in time and, for most people, money. Given the recent high levels of unemployment worldwide, students leaving high school may think going directly to work makes more financial sense than going to college.
Yet the global financial crisis has widened the employment and earnings gap between college-educated workers and those with only a secondary education. People with less education have found themselves more likely to be unemployed and have more difficulty landing a job, a review of unemployment data from countries around the globe shows.
“We have no reason to assume that this is likely to change any time soon,” said Andreas Schleicher of the Paris-based think tank Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
Consider the latest unemployment figures from the United States, released Friday. In May, 7.4 % of high school graduates were unemployed, while just 3.8% of university graduates were without a job, according to seasonally adjusted data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). That trend — of double the unemployment rate for high school grads compared with college grads — has largely held steady even amid the US recession.
The value of a university degree, at least when it comes to finding a job, is not unique to the US.  The correlation can also be seen around the world, said Daniel Hamermesh, an international labour economist at the University of Texas in Austin.
People with less education have found themselves more likely to be unemployed.
Exactly how much university credentials pay off differs from country to country.
A university education, for instance, offers Europeans a significant boost. In 2012, the 27 countries in the Euro zone had a total unemployment rate of about 10%, according to data from Eurostat, the EU agency that tracks statistical data for member states located in Luxembourg. Yet for college graduates, unemployment was about one-third lower, at 6%.
    Younger workers disadvantaged
A degree has been far more valuable for older college-educated workers in Europe. It is still quite difficult for young European college graduates to find a job. The unemployment rate for workers under age 25 is 2.6 times that of the total jobless rate, according to Eurostat.
In Spain, where unemployment is expected to stay above 25% through 2016, university graduates have an advantage, with a jobless rate of 17%. But digging into the data reveals age disparities. Today in Spain, 45% of university graduates aged 16 to 24 are unemployed, according to the country’s national statistical office, far higher than the overall unemployment rate for university graduates.
Those who are working in Spain are also likely toiling at jobs far below their expertise level. “Many university graduates are working in jobs that in other places would only need vocational training,” said Marcel Jansen, a professor of economics at Madrid’s Autónoma University.
The struggle for new graduates to find work is not unique to Europe. In China, college graduates under age 25 had the highest unemployment rate in the country at 16.4%, worse than even high school graduates, according to a 2012 household survey by researchers at Texas A&M University and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. But for China’s population as a whole, however, college graduates are the group with the lowest unemployment — just 3.6% compared to 10% for high school graduates.
    Exceptions
There are exceptions to the overall utility of a college degree when it comes to joblessness, particularly in countries where educational systems are particularly strong, or where economies are booming. In these cases, university graduates barely get an edge in employment rates.
In Japan, for instance, where high school is expected to prepare some students for a career, the added value of a university education may be more limited, Schleicher said. Government initiatives also help to keep unemployment across the country artificially low.  And in a red-hot economy such as Germany’s, managers are hungry to hire any workers, regardless of their education level.
For most places in the developed world, however, the reality remains: a college degree is practically the new minimum requirement for even the lowest-level jobs at many companies, despite the employment woes of younger university graduates.
There is also evidence that having the degree is likely to pay off down the road for younger graduates, offering hope to jobless young graduates across Europe. OECD research found, for instance, that in Brazil, having a tertiary education offered workers a 200% premium in lifetime earnings compared to those who hadn’t finished high school. In Greece, Korea, and Turkey, the premium gap was 70%.
That premium will likely only go up as the economy improves.
“A college degree is always going to lend an advantage,” Hamermesh said.

    Yanga wajitoa Kagame, Serikali yanawa

Williams has now won 16 Grand Slam singles titles, moving her to within two of Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, who have 18 each.
And with an unbeaten run that now stands at 31 matches, she will be strongly favoured to add to that tally at Wimbledon next month.
We were hoping it wouldn't be too one-sided. Maria played really well. Her serve was really good, but Serena was that little bit better and managed to get a couple of breaks.
I'm in awe of Serena's strength, her ability, her agility and the way she competes.
Sharapova had come into Saturday's final promising to "try something different" after failing to beat Williams in their last 12 matches, stretching back to 2004.
Key to the Russian's hopes was defending a serve that has been plagued by double faults in recent times.
At 0-40 in the opening game, things already looked bleak for Sharapova, but she dug in and fired down an ace and one terrific second serve as she saw off four break points.
The second seed took that momentum into the following game to break the mighty Williams serve, and looked well set in the next at 40-15 - before Williams sparked into life.
A heavy forehand winner helped her back into the game and when she thumped away a smash on break point, the American let out a "come on!" that was the equal of Sharapova's early efforts.
Four games in a row put Williams in command at 4-2, but Sharapova showed the grit that has taken her to four Grand Slam titles as she battled her way back to 4-4 in some fierce baseline exchanges.

With the pressure on, Williams raised her intensity still further and produced the kind of hitting that even Sharapova cannot live with, forcing the Russian into a forehand error in game nine before serving out the set after 51 minutes.
That was five minutes longer than Sara Errani had managed to delay Williams in their entire semi-final, and Sharapova continued to cling on gamely.
She saved five break points in a gripping first game of the second set but, unable to trouble the American's serve, she found herself under pressure again moments later.
Williams proved just how much she has improved her movement on clay as she slid out wide for one defensive backhand on the way to breaking in game three, and she would not relinquish the advantage.
The 15,000 spectators in the main Chatrier stadium cheered Sharapova as she held serve from 30-30 with defeat looming, but she was not about to be given a reprieve by her opponent.
Williams demonstrated once again that her serve is the best shot in the game, firing down an ace to secure the title and dropping to her knees in celebration.

NELSON MANDELA ADMITTED TO HOSPITAL IN "SERIOUS CONDITION" let us pray for Him

    Nelson Mandela in June 2010
Former President Nelson Mandela has been admitted to hospital in South Africa with a lung infection.

A presidential spokesman said he is in a "serious but stable condition", although he was able to breathe on his own - a "positive sign".

Mr Mandela, 94, has been ill for some days but deteriorated overnight and was transferred to a hospital in Pretoria.

He led the fight against apartheid and is regarded as the father of democratic South Africa.

He has recently suffered a series of health problems and this is his fifth visit to hospital in two years.

In April he was released from hospital after a 10-day stay caused by pneumonia.

His illness was described on Saturday as a recurrence of a lung infection, which has troubled him repeatedly.

The South African presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj gave an update on Mr Mandela's condition

Mr Mandela was taken to hospital, from his home in a suburb of Johannesburg, at about 01:30 local time (23:30 GMT Friday).

Mac Maharaj, South Africa's presidential spokesman, told the BBC he was receiving expert medical care.

Doctors were doing everything possible to make him comfortable and better, he added.

"What I am told by doctors is that he is breathing on his own and I think that is a positive sign," he said.

Mr Mandela's wife Graca Machel had been at his bedside since the early hours of the morning, Sapa news agency quoted the presidential spokesman as saying.

She cancelled a scheduled appearance at a meeting in London.

"Naturally the immediate members of the family have access to him and it's always good for the patient that he has been accompanied by one or other of them, and that has happened," Mr Maharaj told the BBC.
    'Symbol of hope'
"President Jacob Zuma, on behalf of government and the nation, wishes Madiba a speedy recovery and requests the media and the public to respect the privacy of Madiba and his family," Mr Maharaj said in a statement, using the clan name by which Mr Mandela is often known.

On the streets of Pretoria, people expressed their affection for their former president and their concern.

Mamoshomo Tswai, a trader, said: "As long as Tata [father] is still alive then poor people like me, people who are down down, single mothers like me, we still have hope. South Africa is nothing without him."

But another informal trader in Pretoria, who did not want give their name, said: "We must just accept that he is old. We love him, we all do, but we must start to accept that he is a very old man."

Keith Khoza, a spokesman for the governing ANC, said Mr Mandela continued to be "a symbol of hope, to be a symbol of reconciliation" for South Africa.

"We are certainly concerned about his health and we called on South Africans to pray for him and his family.

"Even if you have an elderly person in the family who is sick and you expect something - once it happens the shock is still there."
    Damaged lungs
Mr Mandela served as president from 1994 to 1999.

South Africans offer best wishes to Nelson Mandela

He was previously imprisoned for 27 years, and is believed to have suffered damaged lungs while working in a prison quarry.

He contracted tuberculosis in the 1980s while being held in jail on the windswept Robben Island.

He retired from public life in 2004 and has been rarely seen in public since.

There was a row in April when South Africa's governing African National Congress (ANC) - Mr Mandela's party - filmed a visit to see him and broadcast the pictures of him with President Zuma and other party figures.

Critics called it an invasion of his privacy.

Mr Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 jointly with former President FW de Klerk for ending apartheid and bringing democracy to South Africa.

    Xavi ridicules Barcelona end-of-era talk

Xavi says that Barcelona's run is set to continue

The Spain international has brushed off claims that Barca's period of European dominance is coming to an end
Xavi has laughed off suggestions that Barcelona's dynasty is over, claiming it comes from people who do not want the club to succeed.

Barcelona won 14 trophies between 2008-2012 under former coach Pep Guardiola, including two Champions League triumphs.

This year it won La Liga but missed out on the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, but Xavi believes talk of Barca's dominance coming to an end is laughable.

"I laugh whenever I hear it. Years ago I was hearing this and it seems that it will never happen, unfortunately for some," Xavi told Sport.es.
"It will take a lot [to end the era]. What is clear is that all those who talk of the end of the cycle are people who don't want Barcelona [to succeed].
    Pay no attention to them."

Xavi also argued that Bayern Munich is not the dominant force in European football despite suffering a 7-0 aggregate defeat to the Bavarians in the Champions League semifinal.

"I don't agree [that Bayern is a lot stronger than Barcelona]," he continued.

"Bayern changed against us, were less attacking than usual and pressed us well, they defended seamlessly.

"They were stronger and faster than us. But when we had the ball they could not dominate us. It is evident that they were much better [on the day], but there a lots of reasons why neither us nor Madrid reached the final."

The Spaniard also addressed suggestions there could be a clash of egos between Lionel Messi and new arrival Neymar, claiming that there are no issues in the dressing room at Barcelona.

"Johan [Cruyff] and I mean it when we say that there are cockfights in football, but I'm sure that will not happen here. The theme of the roosters and egos in this locker room is controlled."
